Environment

Like all energy projects ranging from wind turbines, tidal energy schemes and through to nuclear power plants, an assessment of Blythe Park Power Station’s environment impact is an integral and important part of the development and planning process.

BPP has undertaken a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and its findings have been documented in an Environmental Statement (ES) which has been submitted to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) for what is called ‘Section 36 Consent’ (i.e. consent under the Electricity Act 1989 to build the power station).

To determine the extent of the EIA studies, a ‘Scoping Report’ was prepared and submitted in June 2009 to DECC, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and a number of consultees (such as the Environment Agency and Natural England).  The Scoping Report outlined the proposed scope and methodology of the EIA and invited consultees to comment on whether they felt that they were appropriate and to inform the project team of any other areas that they felt  should be addressed.

The Scoping Report can be downloaded here (right click and “save target as”).

The EIA considered a range of issues including:

  • Air quality
  • Water quality
  • Noise
  • Traffic & transport
  • Landscape & visual impacts
  • Ecology
  • Socio-economics
  • Cultural heritage
